July 8 - July 10

7-10-78 Lake Superior, Madeline Island. Well Sunday we hit some berg for breakfast, can't remember the name. It was a nice day, but the road was shitty all the way to 33/US2 was being worked on though and portions were fantastic. J & I spilt just after the 33 Jnc. I stayed on 2 & he went into Duluth. The road had a shoulder, paved, but nothing much else. I left 2 at Adolph and headed for 105. Shitty roads (note the Cap S.) The 105 bridge was really neat. Train on the top, cars on the bottom. Ate lunch in Oliver on [a] policeman's lawn. After running all over Superior and suburbs, I made it

to 13 & Port Wing (a triple thunk-thunk road), but pretty. Help[ed] a guy & his girl with a sailboat that had jumped the trailer, had 1/2 beer. Port Wing had a neat school for sale, I almost bought it. The ride to here was neat laid-back and pretty. Lake Superior is baffling, it looks like [the] San Juans. Pulled into Bayfield ~11:59 barely got food before [the] store closed. Got to the island & found a CG. J pulled in about 6 just as I was scarfing down Ziegert Hoppe's left-over stew & riding w/ him into town to call home. I got back and he had eaten

all the strawberries and told me about the great time he had. Well today was just lazy and tomorrow's Michigan.
