Killingsworth and Sandy

I really dislike this intersection. Mostly because you are in an odd mix of bike paths, re-entering traffic and sidewalks. So I am going above and beyond on my rationale in the proposed method for handling this intersection.

I recommend getting back into traffic as soon as possible and making your intentions as obvious to cars as possible. To do this enter from the south bound bike path by getting in the right most left turn lane half way through the crosswalk. This puts you in front of the cars and almost impossible to miss. (Unless the driver is putting on make-up, talking on his or her cell phone, reading book, etc.). Then when the light turns green (protected left) you can go with traffic.

The problem with continuing through the crosswalk on Killingsworth to Sandy and crossing again there, is all the people taking their free right turn east bound off of Killingsworth onto Sandy. They are not looking at you, they are looking for other cars.

The pictures below explain show the route.
